Consultant Structural Engineer (Buildings)
Job Description
This Opportunity Performs structural engineering work, under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, relating to the design of new and existing structures. Additional tasks may include coordinating with architects, contractors, and clients, managing projects independently, and supervising junior engineers. Ensures high-quality deliverables are produced and distributed on time and in compliance with project-specific construction codes. Demonstrates leadership qualities and a passion for growing within the structural engineering profession. Your Impact • Perform structural engineering work relating to the design of new concrete, concrete masonry (CMU), steel, metal stud, light-frame wood, and mass timber structures for residential, institutional, and commercial projects. • Develop structural engineering solutions to facilitate the re-use of existing building structures though structural retrofitting or resiliency assessments. • Incorporate advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, while also utilizing future-ready solutions with structural engineering design standards. • Contribute to project coordination through remote/in-person meetings, technical sketches, BIM modeling, and work site notebooks/logs. • Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on securing structural soundness from loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence. • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses. • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting. • Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects. • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or problems. • Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design and construction problem or issue and/or to plan for future needs. • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level risk mitigation activities. • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). • Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects. • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
