WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Electrical Engineer for our Tyler, Texas office. This Opportunity The Early Career Electrical Engineer candidate will perform a variety of engineering tasks as assigned by our electric utility clients, including substation, transmission, and distribution. They are expected to maintain WSP’s high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients. Your Impact • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction. • Complete training on assigned tasks. • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business need • Perform the detailed design of low to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to: Physical design, P&C design. • System relaying and protection, including substation relaying, transmission line relaying, and distribution coordination studies. • Perform the detailed design of distribution lines up to 25kV, including overhead and underground design. • Perform the detailed design of transmission lines up to 345kV. • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients. • Shall have the ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively within a team setting. • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to department standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs for our clients.
Who You Are Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university preferably with a power option. • 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience. • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset. • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. • Must have strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on. • Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel. • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship. • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
