WSP is initiating a search for a full-time Traffic Engineer to join our strong and dedicated team of local and national traffic experts in our Cincinnati, Ohio, Lexington, Kentucky, or Louisville, Kentucky office. This position is best suited for an engineer who is seeking an opportunity to work within a team-focused environment, with the resources and support of a large world-wide engineering firm. Your Impact

• Ability to assist a project and/or task manager for multiple traffic engineering projects.

• Assist with lighting design, signal design, ITS design, and other traffic engineering projects for state government and local municipalities.

• Assist with technical analysis using Synchro, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, and other traffic engineering analysis software.

• Perform professional traffic engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.

• Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.

• Maintain quality assurance and quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.

• Assist with development and scoping of projects.

• Interface with staff from a range of other disciplines to support a diverse range of projects.

• May also support roadway design projects, traffic engineering projects, or other transportation studies as needed.

• Work well individually and with cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, construction, compliance documentation, and technical analysis memos.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or closely related discipline.

• 0 to 3 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior traffic safety and/or lighting/traffic design experience.

• A strong background in traffic engineering design and client/project management.

• Proficient and extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, process, and project delivery related to traffic control equipment, lighting systems, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and related communications systems.

• Assist with traffic engineering software (HCS, Synchro, Sidra, VISSIM).

• Assist with traffic safety engineering strategies, software and procedures to complete both existing and predictive safety analyses or other applicable design software packages.

• Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting and/or Open Roads Designer understanding.

• Knowledge of or willing to learn AGi32 photometric analysis, IES recommended practices, signal operations and phasing.

• Willing to participate in field reviews.

• Assist with adhering to state government requirements and procedures.

• Proficient with technical writing and documentation.

• Ability to work in a corporate environment, communicating with a wide range of professional skill sets.

• Work cooperatively with staff to effectively deliver projects on deadlines, including coordinating with multiple staff working on multiple projects.

• Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership, maintaining quality deliverables with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

• Works independently with strict adherence to QA/QC.

• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

• Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

• Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

• Prior transportation, traffic, and/or electrical design experience.

• A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations.

• Professional Engineer in Training Certification, or ability to register within 12 months.
