Intermediate Professional, Data Modelling
Job Description
This Opportunity
WSP is currently seeking a Data Modeler to join our growing team in Valhalla, NY, with a strong emphasis on data capture, point cloud processing, and Scan-to-BIM workflows. This opportunity is ideal for someone passionate about structuring complex datasets derived from laser scanning, reality capture, and digital surveys, transforming them into reliable, scalable BIM-ready data assets. The role will support the integration of field-collected data into coordinated BIM environments, enabling accurate modeling, analysis, and decision-making across infrastructure, engineering, and transportation programs. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the U.S., contributing to data pipelines that bridge reality capture and digital design, and support project delivery, reporting, and strategic initiatives. Your Impact • Design, build, and maintain logical and physical data models (conceptual, relational, semantic, dimensional) that support Scan-to-BIM workflows and reality capture data integration. • Collaborate with engineering, BIM, and multidisciplinary teams to translate field-collected data (laser scans, surveys, point clouds) into structured, BIM-ready data environments. • Support data governance, data quality procedures, metadata standards, and BIM data modeling protocols, ensuring consistency across digital assets. • Assist in maintaining and optimizing data pipelines that transform and integrate point cloud data into coordinated BIM models from multiple sources and platforms. • Prepare data dictionaries, model element mapping, lineage documentation, and Scan-to-BIM specifications. • Participate in data integration, validation, and QA/QC processes for reality capture and BIM datasets. • Contribute to reporting and analytics by ensuring that data derived from scanning and BIM models supports accurate insights and decision-making. • Uphold WSP’s standards for data integrity, digital delivery, and compliance, supporting reliable use of reality capture and BIM data across projects. Who You Are Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, with exposure to BIM, reality capture, or geospatial technologies preferred. • 1–3 years of experience in data modeling, point cloud processing, Scan-to-BIM workflows, or database-related work (internships included). • Foundational understanding of relational databases, SQL, and data modeling concepts (e.g., ERD, star/snowflake schemas), with the ability to structure and manage data derived from laser scanning and digital surveys. • Ability to communicate technical concepts related to BIM, reality capture, and data workflows to non-technical stakeholders. • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, especially when handling large, complex point cloud and BIM datasets, with a willingness to learn and adapt to evolving technologies. • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, supporting the integration of field data into coordinated BIM environments. Preferred Qualifications • Hands-on experience with reality capture and modeling tools (e.g., ReCap, Revit, Navisworks), with an emphasis on point cloud processing and Scan-to-BIM workflows. Experience with data modeling tools (e.g., ERWin, dbt, SQL Developer, Power BI modeling layer) is a plus. • Familiarity with cloud-based data environments (e.g., ACC, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, AWS Redshift) for managing and integrating large-scale scan and BIM datasets. • Exposure to Python, R, or similar scripting languages for processing point clouds, automating Scan-to-BIM tasks, and performing data transformation. • Understanding of data governance, metadata standards, and master data management, particularly in the context of BIM and reality capture data.
