This Opportunity WSP is seeking a Utility Coordination Inspector to join our Construction Management team in Kennesaw, GA.
Your Impact • Under limited supervision monitor and report construction and maintenance activities within the State’s Right-of-Way (ROW) to ensure they comply with approved permits and safety regulations. • Compliance Monitoring: Inspect ROW construction and restoration work performed by utility companies and subcontractors to ensure it meets GDOT’s standards and permitting requirements. • Encroachment Enforcement: Patrols assigned state roadway routes to detect unpermitted work. Given the authority to issue “Stop Work” orders if unauthorized activities are found. • Technical Documentation: Required use of specialized systems to track permit status, document site conditions with photos and log daily activities such as the Georgia Permit Application System (GPAS) and others. • Traffic Control Inspection: Verifies that work zones have proper temporary traffic control measures in place. Ensuring safety for the traveling public in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and GDOT specifications. • Project Coordination: Conducts or facilitates pre-construction meetings with owners, developers, and contractors to review project drawing and installation procedures. • Final Acceptance: Conduct final inspections of completed work and checks as-built drawings against approved plans before releasing bonds or officially accepting the project.
Who You Are Minimum Requirements • High School diploma or GED. • 5 years of Transportation experience in construction inspection, utility coordination or environmental regulation enforcement. • Knowledge of GDOT’s Utility Accommodation policy and Standards manual, guidelines and procedures. • Knowledge of and experience with industry specific software (e.g., MSOffice, Word, Excel and GPASS/GUPS); Utility Permitting software is preferred. • Demonstrated task and project management skills • Ability to establish effective internal and external working relationships. • Plan Reading: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, utility plans, and CADD-generated files. • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to resolve disputes with contractors, address concerns from local residents, and provide technical guidance to stakeholders.
