Job Description

This Opportunity WSP has a new opportunity for a full-time Water Resource Modeler Intern – Summer 2026 to join our team in our Lakewood, CO office. WSP has developed numerous dynamic system models, primarily using the GoldSim software, for clients around the world to evaluate environmental impacts, assist operators with water management, evaluate regulatory compliance, and other considerations. Typical applications include the evaluation of water supply requirements under varying climate or production scenarios; water quality/environmental impact assessments; design alternatives comparisons; water treatment studies; and mine closure studies/financial assurance evaluations. This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18th, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Your Impact • Participate in the development of probabilistic, dynamic systems-based water balance and water quality models for the mining industry under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers. • Apply critical thinking skills to help solve complex problems. • Assist project teams with data analysis and interpretation. • Participate in developing conceptual models and basis-of-design documents under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers. • Assist with the preparation of proposals, presentations, and technical reports under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers. • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to assist with permitting, operational optimization, and closure assessments for large mining operations. • Perform work in accordance with an agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule. • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally. • Complete training on assigned tasks. • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Who You Are Required Qualifications • Actively enrolled in an accredited Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later. • Must be 18 or older. • Demonstrated interest in water stewardship, mine water management, water quality issues, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects. • Interest in hydrologic models (e.g., rainfall-runoff models) and probabilistic and dynamic simulation modeling, either through projects, coursework, or a thesis project. • Familiarity with data analysis, using tools such as R, VBA, MATLAB, or python, and interest in managing and manipulating large datasets. • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience. • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects as well as attention to detail, with the ability to recognize significant discrepancies and logic errors. • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications: • Actively enrolled in an accredited Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related, Master’s or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later. • Experience using R, VBA, MATLAB, Python, and/or dynamic simulation software (e.g., GoldSim, Stella, etc.) • Experience interpreting hydrological and climate data and an understanding of the hydrologic cycle.

Compensation: Expected Salary (Colorado only): $23.90 - $31.11 WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
